20" Wheels Do or Don't
 
00' Super Cab 4x4 I have 295-70-17 Trail Graps on ATX 17x9's right now.
I can get a set of 20" XD's for super cheep. Is there any reasons not to go
with 20's on these trucks input will be much appreciated.

It would have the same effect as gearing the truck higher (assuming the tire you put on them is taller) which will reduce performance and the wider the tire, the more it affects fuel mileage negatively. The taller the tire the less braking effectiveness too.

I have 4:10 gears so I was thinking about going with 305-55-20 Nitto G-2 if its worth
going to the 20's?

Looking at tire rack tire specs for other brands, it appears that those tires have the same diameter, but the 20's will have a one inch wider tread. Check to see how close your existing tires come to rubbing when turned all the way.

The 20s have the same off set as my ATX wheels -12mm so they will clear. Just not sure
going to the 20" is the right way to go.

It depends on how you use your truck. If you do a lot of off roading I would stick with 17. If mostly road driving Then 20's will be fine.

IMHO I would stick with the 17s. I am old school when it comes to 4x4s I prefer a little wheel and a big tire. Once I get my Rancho Quicklifts installed on my 2010 Expedition it will be getting 33/17s.
As some one else said the 17s are much better for off roading. The 17s will also give a little smoother ride, and protect teh wheel better. Take a look at what the off road trucks are running.

I've got both for my truck, run the BFG KM2's on 17 inch rims during the winter for hunting and BFG KO's on 20's during the summer for mostly highway miles pulling my boat. I like the looks of the 20's but the ride is much better with the 17's.

Do you get an alignment when switching from 20's to the 17's? My thought is if
I bought the 20's and did not like them I'm sure I could sell and make few bucks
but the alignment would be the deal breaker.

No alignment needed when switching tire sizes.
