2000 wont start

I have a 2000 f150 5.4 put a new fuel pump on it its getting 30 to 40 psi fuel pressure at the fuel rail. but wont start I can put a little gas down the throttle body and it will run for a sec. then shut off any guesses what is could be

Sounds like you don't have injector pulse. Can you feel the injectors clicking when it's trying to start?

Were there other symptoms leading up to this - like having a new key made, cluster repair, ECU replacement? Why was the fuel pump replaced?

What is the THEFT light doing when you try and start the engine?

masethis99 06-25-2015 12:04 AM

I did not feel any clicking at the injectors so I use a light tester the light tester lit up there was no fuel coming out of the check valve is why I replace the fuel pump when I bought the truck it was not running they told me it was the fuel pump I've tried two different fuel pumps 1 brand new and 1 used no difference the key looks like the original one the theft light comes on but doesn't blink fast but I did see that the light came on when I was trying to start it whether that means anything

The light tester did come on when I return to switch on

The THEFT light is supposed to come on solid for about two seconds, then go off if the computer recognizes the key. This must be verified because the computer disables the fuel injectors if the PATS system fails to prove out.

If PATS is happy but you do not have injectors firing, the next thing to check is if the injectors have their switched battery power. There should be a single color wire (red?) that goes to all the injectors. It should measure 12-13 volts with the ignition in RUN. Check that next.

OK, so it sounds like its not PATS, and you have verified that you have fuel pressure and power to the injectors, but no pulse.

Either your PCM is bad, you have a bad cam and/or crank position sensor, or a wiring short/open.

The truck should still run with a bad cam sensor, and it's unlikely the PCM has completely failed, so I'm going with crankshaft position sensor. It's a simple hall effect sensor and can be tested with a multimeter, or you can shell out $30 for one at the parts store.

Update so I put a new crank sensor on it still nothing so I decided to look at the PCM and this is what I found is there supposed to be something in this hole

This is on the opposite side of the plug in on the front

ishootstuff 06-30-2015 09:01 AM

Yes, but it's just a dust cover.

masethis99 06-30-2015 09:06 AM

Would you happen to know any other ideas why its not getting fuel to the injectors or you're not working whatever the case may be

ishootstuff 06-30-2015 09:44 AM

Do you have a code scanner? See if the computer will tell you anything.

I'm also concerned by a couple of conflicting statements you made. You say you have 30-40 PSI at the rail, but you also said no fuel came out of the test port. It sounds like the fuel pump WAS bad and you resolved that, but there is a new problem. Also, 30-40 is a very wide range. I believe the spec is 38PSI. It's possible you could have pumped a bunch of debris into the injectors after replacing the pump and clogged them - especially if the truck had been sitting for a long time.

I know you replaced the crankshaft position sensor, but that doesn't mean its signal is getting to the PCM. It could still have an open or short. Check for continuity from pins 21 and 22 of the PCM plug to the plug for the crank sensor.

I ran a scanner no codes so I changed the injectors and it started rite up thank u very much I owe ya big time

You're welcome! Glad the truck started up and THANKS for posting up the solution.
