Passenger seat won't recline!

Good morning everyone. Brand new to the site. I recently bought a 2003 F150 King Ranch. I love the truck so far but I can't get the passenger side seat back to move. It's stuck in a partially reclined position that my wife says gets uncomfortable to ride in (I wouldn't know, I don't let her drive my truck!).

Is there a fix for this? Is there a cable or something inside the recliner mechanism that has come off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There's a set of gears in it that mesh together, and a coil spring. I would pull the cover off and inspect for build up of dust, look to make sure the teeth look ok and see that the spring hasn't jumped and gotten in the gear mechanism.

Thanks for the reply DJ. I took off the cover and didn't find much dust or anything in there. I can see the gears move when I pull on the lever, but they don't move enough to disengage and allow the seat to move. I thought there might be something inside the mechanism that I couldn't see that might've broken or came apart somehow?

My driver seat did the same thing on my 97. I sprayed some WD-40 on the gears and just kept rocking and jimmying the lever while sitting in it. After a while it popped back up. That was also the last time I reclined it that far back lol.

Your welcome. If you don't physically see anything broken. I would clean it well with fast drying solvent like electrical contact cleaner u can pick up at any auto parts store. Blow it out with a air compressor if u have access to one and then apply spray on lithium grease. It doesn't smell awful the way P. B. Blaster or W. D.40 does. This may sound contrary to each other but it could be too dry or have too much grease which causes gunk to build up and bind. If it were the mechanism broken u should be able to see it also make sure that the teeth are meshed well with each other and the rivet that holds the together hasn't worn and caused them to bind or get out of alignment. If not just try my suggestion and after work the leaver up and down while rocking the seat up and down. Don't be afraid to use some force. Their harder to break than u would think. Sorry for the long reply just trying to think of everything I can so u don't have to keep checking different things out. Also this is something I do to my seat tracks every so often I've seen them bind for the same reasons. Both manual and electric.
