Fuel Gauge Doesn't Go Above E
Hey all, I have a 1999 Ford F150 XLT 5.4L, and for about 8 months now the fuel gauge dosnt budge from below E. Occasionally the gauge will do a self-test (all the way up then down). Im so baffled by it. I have to use my barley-working ODO to approximate fuel. any idas? thanks!
(the low fuel light is on all the time) |
Sending unit. Believe it is all one unit. In the tank.
You could try giving the bottom of the fuel tank a few bumps with rubber mallet. Maybe that will free it up. |
Yup, sending unit is part of the pump, I know I had to be very careful when replacing my 97's gas tank when removing the pump assembly to move it to the new tank. There is an electrical connector that you can check/re-seat first...

When in doubt, HIT IT WITH A HAMMER!

Connection
What electrical connection may that be? And the location? Thanks
|
Look for where the fuel lines enter the tank, that will be the top of the fuel pump. There will be a wire loom coming out there, follow that toward the frame (where I think it attaches) to find the connector. A good whack may help if the float is stuck.

oHm
So I ohmed the sending unit today, came up with 3.8ohms with fluctuating numbers up and down. I almost certain that the sending unit is bad, considering that the minimum is 15ohms

I've had that problem before. Budget a fuel pump. That will fix it. Get an OEM one..
