hey guys been on hear a couple of times just joined my wife's truck is a 99 f150 4.6L 2wd automatic recently its been acting up. hesitant on take and there is what sounds like a power steering whine when you take off that seems to go away once you get up to speed. I have seafoamed then replaced Plugs, Wires, PCV valve, cleaned throttle body and iac, 02 sensor, tps sensor, and fuel filter. I am at a loss as what to do now. i want her to have a good running truck.

I believe your describing two different issues.
The whine can be the power steering pump, the drive belt tensioner, alternator bearing, A/C idler or any belt driven part.
Listen close to see what area you hear it in then take the drive belt off and start the motor and run just long enough to observe the result and make a decision.
The hesitation may or may not be some engine control issue.
Treat them as separate until you see a positive association.
Could we ask you not to run your sentences all together and use Capitals to begin each one.
Hint; if your using Windows 7, left click your cursor on words underlined in red as misspelled. Then right click. A box will appear with correct spelling of the words the program recognizes your trying to use as proper. Left click on the word and it will auto correct the word in the text.
Spell correction may have to be turned on.

Have you tried pulling codes? Sometimes a code will set and not light the MIL.

It could also be the transmission.

I had a whine in my 70 Mustang way back when that went away after starting to move. I was positive it was the transmission the way it sounded. Turned out to be the alternator!

Hey, sorry guys I was in a hurry when i typed this yesterday. I checked the computer for codes and it didn't have any. As far as the P/S type whine goes it doesn't matter if I'm going straight or turning it only occurs in drive. Thanks again.

That is probably a transmission whine. Doesn't bode too well for the tranny.

Would a transmission flush help, I don't know when the last time it was done.

Alright guys I still haven't made any progress so it looks like Thursday I'm taking to the stealership for a multi-point inspection

Good Luck! I've heard an alternator whine like that but I think it would do it in neutral as well.

Alright folks, Took it to the stealership they told me it need new plugs,wires,coil pack on the passenger side, air and fuel filter. They didn't tell me anything about the whining noise. i took the belt off when i got home started it up no whine so that narrows it down to pulleys, I replace the tensioner pulley because i had it on hand, I put the belt on and still squeaking so I think it's either idler or alternator? thoughts?.. replaced the passenger coil pack and it starts better but still not running right I'm pretty sure 1 or all of the cats are clogged or bad.

Did you replace the idler pulley to?

^^ No I didn't i already had the tensioner pulley so i figured it wouldn't hurt to take the 5 min and put it on.

To short cut the process use a wood dowel against your hand to ear area and placed on various areas to try detecting where the sound is coming from the most or use a stetho scope to do the same.
With engine running do this safely.
If the cats would be OD codes would be set as 420/430.
No codes, don't be concerned about the cat but a muffler or tail pipe could be a restriction.
Always be open to multiple issues at the same time.

How old is the battery? Have you had it load tested? If it's getting weak, that can cause an alternator whine.

Did you replace the plugs, wires, and filters as recommended?
