Drive Shaft Question

What truck came with the good looking, what appears to be aluminum, driveshaft?? My '02 definitely does not. It's pretty crappy looking. Headed to the junk yard to look for something else and it crossed my mind to see if I could find one of the good looking aluminum ones and swap it out; barring I can find a straight one in good shape that it.

I'm not sure what all exact models came with it, or what packages designate getting an aluminum drive shaft, but my 2002 F150 XLT Sport did. So they're out there. Good luck.

My 01 had one. You don't want one, they are weak. Just as weak as junk greasable u-joints.

The steal shafts and solid u-joints are Fords very best. The 98 is still using the originals w/over 300,000 miles lol. They definitely did something right.

You better measure yours. I'm not sure if the 4x4's had an aluminum shaft. Regardless, measure first.

Hey, I can get these at cost btw. It's also cheaper to purchase new over lengthing or shortening.

Obviously I would measure it first, but my driveshaft is a complete eye-sore considering the rest of the truck. That shaft may be weaker, but it looks good! I don't abuse my truck to the point where I think it would matter anyways. From a technical/performance standpoint, seems the lighter that spinning mass, the better.

Stronger? I've searched and haven't found any thread about people wringing off driveshafts on these trucks as of late? Stronger if you hit something…I might buy that one for a $1. I'm thinking the performance gain from spinning that aluminum shaft over a steel one will be worth the risk.
