What are you doing for new bolts/studs? What cast did you get? Mine will be headed my way shortly; just sucks I don't have time to mess with it until early Aug.

I'm curious to hear how your true dual set-up ends up. I did tons and tons of research on a true dual system and everything I uncovered led down the road that you give up a bit of low end torque on our 2V motors. I wasn't willing to risk it with my toy hauler so I'm going with the Y into a single muffler.

Going to a true dual system does NOT cost you any low end torque, unless you are using too large of diameter pipe. You gain low end torque as well as high end. When you floor it at 70mph, it actually accelerates, but the thing that WILL cost you is the stock tune, a problem I've run in to. The long tube headers will make the engine run way lean if you are over 3/4 throttle so be careful of that. I have a 99 F150 5.4 that I've put the same headers on as the OP, the only difference between his and my exhaust is I have the Magnaflow DI/DO muffler with the 'x' pipe built inside it.

I too did lots of research and I found that 2.25" (low end torque) or 2.5" (high end power) is the size you want to go with. Im going with magnaflow 94106 as suggested in the exhaust guide sticky, and my pacesetter headers came with new bolts aswell as some wire, crimps and heat shrink to extend the O2s. Now my question is if you go 2.25" with out mandrel bends is it going to make a difference?

Good going with the research, -your correct. Dual 2.5's is a loser w/original tune. That's the ONLY reason. With the 2.25 pipes you'll add low end and get a good jump in HP with a decent set of mufflers.

The Dyno proven difference from shorties to LT's (headers) was @ 35 torque/30 hp (test performed w/a 98 5.4L w/PI heads). No tune tweaking, none! Solid difference. Since the first comparison was done between original manifolds and shorties. Showed "0" gains w/same engine.

Personally, I picked up 6 seconds 0-80. Have before and after vids. More than expected, no tune. Made towing a little easier as well. Well, it sure sounded a lot better on the power, anyway. Still does.

Enjoy

Yes, mandrel bend everything for best results.

I didn't realize the Pacesetters came with new bolts...are they quality stuff? Are you going to use them, or think going with some of the grade 8 hardware others have recommended would be better?

Thanx for the great info jbrew!, I'm not too sure if I'm going to use anything different, the bolts should work fine and if not I will make a call to pacesetter and see what they can do (aka send me some good sh**)
