My truck wouldn't start last night
It was raining and I had a hard time starting it before work. Got to work, shut it off and tried starting it again. It would only start once out of 3 tries. Then I went back out about 4 hours later for lunch, still wouldn't start. An hour later I decided to try my remote start, it fired right up. After I got home I tried starting it with the key and it worked fine. Kind of strange. I've read on line that a replacement key is about $100. Also why does everyone's tailgate rust on the bottom? My truck is spotless except for that and I notice a lot of others have that as well.

What is your truck? My crystal ball is broken.

Sorry, it's a 99 V6 automatic. My remote start is an aftermarket which over rides the factory security system. So I guess my key is going bad, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

probley your switch. i have heard someone say that there wife had a heavy key chain and it was doing the same thing. it was a bad switch.

I only have a few other keys with it. From what I read the lock cylinder has nothing to do with it. The part that reads the key is elsewhere and its read through a wireless system. In a gm car it's just a resistor. Ford uses a transponder. They say to try holding your other keys away from it when you start it. The last 5 times it started just fine with the key so maybe it was just a hiccup.
