4.10's or 4.56's?
 

After talkin to a lot of really smart guys on here I was going to go with 4.10's. But I was wondering it it would even be better to go with 4.56's? What are your views on this?

Need more info. Motor, tires, type of driving, etc

4.10s unless you go with tires bigger than your 265/75/16s you have listed in your "garage"...IMHO a 5.4 with stock tires doesn't need a gear swap unless you're towing a lot of heavy stuff.

5.4 v8 triton. 265-75-16 10 ply mud and snow tires. Getting 285-75-16 tires when summers here. And I usually drive country/town. Lots of hills and stoping and starting. And farm truck so yes lots of heavy loads up and down hills over many stops and starts

I would stick with the 4.10's. 4.56's will be way overkill.

I wouldn't say they'd be "way"'overkill. If there's any chance you'll ever go 35" tires, then do the 4.56 now. Otherwise 4.10's are great.

I would think the 4.10s would be pretty nice with 33's if you don't do much interstate driving. My 01 with 33's has 3.55's and the heaviest thing I pull is a 35hp 4x4 kabota tractor with a loader (locally down highway) on a 4 thousand pound trailer. It does pretty good, but more gear would be nice. Ideally I'd be happy with 3.73's. But that is b/c the majority of my towing is a landscape trailer with quads down the interstate. With the 3.55's its hard to keep the torque converter locked @70mph on mostly flat ground.

I mean I do the same. The only trailer I pull on the interstate is a 3080 car hauler. With a truck or a car on it

twlightning...why do you say that about freeway driving?? 33's & 4.10's are a perfect combo regardless of driving, including all freeway. When I swapped to 4.10's (with 33's) my fuel mileage went up a solid and consistent 2+ mpg across the board!. That's every driving condition including freeway.

Do some searching as I'm not the only one that has yielded this result. Many have. Huge misconception that lower gears can hurt fuel mileage, especially on the freeway. Just not so.

I wouldn't mind that increase hahaha. I'm just mostly looking for more smooth low end power and torqu.

if you dont drive over 60mph the 4.56's wouldnt be a bad idea. it would be the equivilant of my 4.88's and 35's.

Well I already orderd my 4.10's. I'm just trying to find a shift spacer. But no such luck so far. I was looking for like trans go or jmod or something.

I can see the increase in day to day driving or interstate pulling a car with 4.10s. I just think 3.73s would be better for me since quads are lighter. My 94 has 4.10s with 30" tires and its screaming on the interstate compairitively. I'm sure the 3" dif in tire size makes a dif. Both trucks average 10 mpg.

I'm sure the 4.10s will be nice, and the best part is if you deside to get 35" tires you still have plenty of gear.
