2000 F150 won't start, new battery,

... originally posted under Electrical - no responses

F150, 6cylinder, manual, 4x4, key with anti-theft key (not remote), likely Cdn model, miles from any service area.

The dash battery lite was flashing on/off, sometimes on wi speed increase, off for a few sec, off on slow down, then intermittent on/off, faint chem smell, lights continued to work, battery was 3yr old energizer.
Started nxt am wi no problem except the intermittent lite. Checked battery, +terminal corroded, cleaned it, no startup. Left hood up overnite - drained the battery dead (due to hood lite!).

New battery installed. Motor turns over, no dash lights, doesn't catch. Had the voltage, grd wire, fuses checked, everything within normal. Friend states truck doesn't have a spark and fuel pump not coming on.

What to check next? Is it likely the computer module fried?

First thing you need to do is speak in complete sentences so there is no information mis-understood.
Does 'wi' mean with?
Only thing I got for sure is you left the hood up and drained the battery.
If you smelled something burnt, look for a wire burned as the possible reason there is no power to the engine control system.
Good luck.

My apologies, i thought I was being clear... so I'll start again...

I have a F150, 6cylinder, manual, 4x4, key with anti-theft key (not remote key).

The dash battery light was flashing on/off, sometimes going on with an increase in speed, then off for a few seconds, then off on slow down. The dash battery light was flashing intermittently on/off with no apparent correlation to speed. As I was in an area with few services, I tried to get the truck home before dark. Luckily the lights continued to work.

The following morning the truck started with no problem except for the intermittent dash battery light. After cleaning the battery terminals (the + was quite gunked up), the truck would not start. I left the hood up overnight, draining what little was left in the battery.

I installed a new battery. The motor turns over, but has no dash lights, and the ignition doesn't catch.
We checked the battery wires and ground wire, checked the fuses, checked voltage, all appear within normal.
On ignition there is no spark and fuel pump does not come on.

Quote: "there is no power to the engine control system."
My question is where to check next. The ground and battery wires show no indication of a short or being burnt. IF there was any chemical smell, it was very light...I'm not sure it was there.
Was the intermittent dash battery light only indicating a dying battery? Or is it likely an indication of a dying alternator?
Would a dying alternator overtax the system or cause a surge that overtaxed some other controls?

Several things indicate no power to the PCM and elswhere.
When you first turn the key to 'run' it is supposed to run the fuel pump about 1 second. If not, no power.
When you crank, the PCM turns the pump back on full time. If not, no power.
At this time you don't know the extent of the problems.
First make sure the battery has a full charge.
If you have your owners manuel, look at the fuse layout for the engine bay distribituion box. Take each one at a time out and measure it with an ohm meter not just look at it.
After you get this all checked out, if there still is no power, then It's time to get a Haynes service book and look at the electrical drawings to get deeper into the system to make checks.
Be sure the crash sensor switch is not tripped at the top of the passenger side kick panel or there will be no fuel.
If the engine should start, look at the battery voltage level just after starting.
It would be up around 15 volts+ indicating the alternator is charging and the charge lamp should be out.
If not the voltage will lay at about 11.7 or 12 volts with no chargeing occurring. Check the plugup at the alternator for this. Be sure the battery is not in backwards.
Good luck.

after much searching, problem of no-start solved! Somehow a fuse was missing, maybe popped out on the rough driveway (????), and of course the alternator!

Thank you for your effort!
