common problems with 98 F150's?
anyone know of common issues with the exhaust on the 98 f150's? Seems like 90% of the trucks around that yr including mine sound like they have an exhaust leak when accelerating? Could it be something at the manifold? I just went through changing out rockerpannels and the starter cable which were known to be common problems with that truck.. Just wasnt sure if there was a common problem with the exhaust as well.. Thanks for any info.

Check for broken manifold studs on the rear cylinders on both sides...
My 97 had 'em.. I've only gotten the pass side done.. The drivers side has a broken stud, but it's not making any noticable noise like the pass side was... Mitch |
alright ill take a look. Is that a pain to try and fix?

I had the parts for 2 years before I finally paid someone to do the pass side! ;)
I enjoy wrenching in my truck, but I just never got the motivation to do that one project... The guy I brought it to did it in a day and he only worked on it between other jobs he had that same day. With the broken studs I had inside the head, I don't have the proper tools to deal with that.. I think he said he 'welded' a bolt to it to get them out? Good luck! Mitch |
I believe my 98 has a pax side exhaust leak as well. Keeps throwing the P0141 code

ive got a 98 and the damn exhaust flange bolts that bolt up to the manifold... rotted right off... ended up pulling engine anyways so doing it myself... otherwise its about 100 dollars per bolt here... its fking dumbbb but thats most likely what your hearing.
