Which Motorcraft Plugs for 1999 4.6?
This has probably been asked before, but what is the correct motorcraft plug for my 1999 F-150 with the 4.6 Windsor? Auto parts stores list 2 different ones - SP413 (Original Equipment Nickel Spark Plug) and SP432 (Original Equipment Finewire Single Platinum Spark Plug). Truck only has 69,000 on it but being the tinkering type, I may change them soon.

I believe they are both the right plug, ones a nickle plated plug, ones platinum. I would opt for the platinum.

x1,000,000,000,000,000 for the platinum

Thanks everybody! I'll go with the SP432s. Kinda funny that they're the same price. Now I need to decide when to do them. I plan on cleaning the TB and checking the mpgs soon too.

I've got the 432's in my 97 4.6 and couldn't be happier

NO antiseize, 28 ft/lb.

Yea, their all good, some just have a healthier longevity. I'll list them -
1. Single Plat 2. Double Plat 3. Iridium Iridium being the best. They still don't have Iridium's (Motorcraft) for the 5four, but I believe they do for the 4six, go figure. I had to go with Denso's for good fine wire. Good Plugs so far. Mileage went up a little for me, but that doesn't happen for everyone. |

For an Iridium, you would either go with "Denso" or "NGK". Like I said, ALL are good plugs. An Iridium fires better, longer. Stick within those tree manufacturers. -
Motorcraft Denso Iridium NGK Iridium Motorcraft offers the fine wire plat. That's the best one there for Motorcraft. |
BTW- I must have confused their fine plat for a fine wire Irid. Not sure, I thought they made an Iridium, for something ?
|
Ahh, here's their Iridium, but it's for the 5four, -
SP479 MOTORCRAFT SUPPRESSOR SPARK PLUG, PLATINUM IRIDIUM, SOLD INDIVIDUALLY -- 0.054 in. gap size, standard service plug; Delivers maximum voltage to the spark plug while maximizing performance and increases engine life; Resists corrosion and abrasion; Reduces the chance of misfire. * Series: Suppressor * Quantity Sold: Sold individually * Plug Type: Resistor * Electrode Core Material: Copper * Electrode Tip Material: Platinum * Product Fit: Direct fit * Warranty: Motorcraft's 12-month or 12,000-miles warranty View more View less Fits the following 1999 Ford F-150 submodels: * 1999: XLT; 8 Cyl 5.4L; "BI-FUEL" * 1999: XLT; 8 Cyl 5.4L; "GAS" _________________________________________ That doesn't make sense yet tho lol. Not to me anyway. |
Thanks jbrew! I'll prob stick with the motorcraft platinum to keep it less confusing for me. The SP432 plugs are $4.69 ea.
