:coffee:how many miles on your 6 banger??

Personally I wouldn't:(...unless it summer time and then maybe only 1 quart at a time and there is a pile of miles on it (150K plus) and already had a lot of valve clatter. You obviously then be nursing it along unitl a rebuilt engine could be had or the new truck was ready for your drive way. :D

If this thing runs very good and lower miles...defiantly not. Then I would advertise the left over oil and sell it and at least recoup some funds. some truck driver would defiantly take it off your hands.

Raptor05121 12-11-2010 02:08 PM

it amazes me how some people risk screwing up their engine to save a few bucks.

glc 12-11-2010 02:21 PM

I wouldn't. Use it in your lawnmower or something.

Off topic - how come 80% of the people here spell "definitely" "defiantly"........

BLUE20004X4 12-11-2010 02:22 PM

I don't think it'd be a problem, not on a 6 cyl, but on a 4.6 or 5.4, the thinner the oil, the better. Diesel oil is good oil so give it a try.

jbrew 12-11-2010 03:37 PM

Nope lol.

Stephen87 12-11-2010 03:55 PM

i wouldnt, its too thick.

And to glc for the off topic comment the only reason I can think of is that you try and spell definitely wrong and it will spell check it to defiantly at least that is what happens to me

BillP603 12-11-2010 04:46 PM

Can you use it? Yes.
Should you use it? No!
Find someone with a diesel that takes that mix and let them have it for 1/2 price

When Ford redesigned the Crown Vics in 1992 we had a Chief that swore we would be better off using 20w50 oil instead of the Ford recommended 5w20. Long story short, in 1993 Ford charged right at $4 grand for a new 4.6 engine and installation.

Barrett 12-12-2010 12:19 AM

would not even risk it.

When my work truck ('03 5.4) had a head gasket oil leak, our mechanic gave me a few qts. of oil to keep it topped up ... 15-40. When I asked what was up w/ the 15-40, he said "... we have so many different types of vehicles, we pick one wt. of oil and use it in all of them ...". Last time I was in for an oil change (145K), he put in 5-20. When I asked him why the change, he told me they just lost a V10 at very low miles and when they talked to Ford the first question was " ... what oil are you running in it ..." (they'd been using 15-40).

That being said, my work truck has been run for 140K on 15-40 changed at 6K intervals.

It also says to put unleaded gasoline in your truck, but go ahead and put diesel in.

Personally I run 5-w30 in my truck. I have a friend that had a 4.6L and all he ran it was 15-w40. He bought the truck used in highschool and when he sold it it had a bit over 200K miles on it. ran perfect.
