mine does the exact same thing..... its like the ebrake is always on. i have taken part the brakes twice now..
does your Squeel when you come to a stop some time?
and if i don't brake very lightly the brakes lock right up and skid.
when you find this problem cause you please let me know? i think it has something to with the self adjuster in the brakes. or the e-brake.

fixed it knock on wood. i took the rear drums off and found a couple hot spots in them. took them and got them spun and resurfaced. took sand paper to the brake pads and now no more squeeling and no more grabbing.

hope this helps dude

try the e-brake cable. my 97 did the same thing, and wasnt fixed until we finally replaced the e-brake cable.

I'm guessing that the only ones that lock up are the rear drum brakes, right?

Here's a list of brake lockup Items that I commonly see (and remember):
  1. Fluid contamination of rear drum brake shoes. Mal-adjusted brake shoes (off post)
  2. Mal-adjusted master cylinder post
  3. brake hose deterioration / blockage.
  4. cracked reservoir housing on master cylinder.

Don't want to be rude but did anyone look at the dat on this? another thing that can caus your brakes to lock up, is contamnation of the brakes by a leaking axle seal or cylinder.

I fixed the problem permanently.
The problem with mine was the self adjuster wasn't from Ford. I replaced it a new one that was a bit shorter in length.
So Im guessing the problem is the self adjuster
