1997 with 4.6 head gasket questions

i was just going to replace the valve cover gaskets and then i started to think about change the head gaskets also. the truck had 262k on it and i dont know the last time they been done if ever. but if i do the head gaskets should i get a new timming set also. what do you guys think? thanks for the help.

At 262k I would think that the engine is near the end of it's service life, and should be rebuilt or replaced IF you are having head gasket problems. If you are not having HG problems, leave them alone.
Replace the cam cover gaskets if they leak and call it good.

What onelowf said Don't fix what ain't broke, and w/that many mi. I would look at doing a whole engine before replaceing stuff like that.

the valve covers do leak thats why i was thinking about this whole thing. im not having any troubles with the head gaskets and im have on oil/coolant mixing and im not overheating. i was just thinking if i was going to be under there and if i should go ahead and do them also. but i will just keep it simple. thanks

Well to do the heads would be a totaly differnt job then just the valve covers, if it was as simple as pulling some more bolts then I would go for it.
