All new aftermarket headunits have a clock. It's standard protocol. It should have a DISP (display) button to change from station to time... unless it is a Kraco. An orange wire on the aftermaket head unit is for constant power (MEMORY) to keep time and save saved stations
The sissue wans't that he dosen't have one but that he dosen't have one w/the unit off. You might have a button that you can push to bring up the clock when it is off. I also haven't seen a mirror witha clock but have seen the overhead consel with one.
If the unit is off and the clock stays on, it would be a drain on the battery. The headunit would have to be wired to a continuous power feed instead of ignition on/off for the clock to work on demand
