Motor options for 1997 f150

I been having problems with my truck about a oil pressure light. Went to a shop said i was low on coolant and my head gaskets went bad.

They are saying it could be a 15-20 hour job, so roughly a $2000 bill to replace the gasket.

Would it be cheaper just to get a decent better motor to put in my truck?

Also would anyone know some of the prices people would sell a motor for a 1997 f-150?

it would be cheaper if you put the motor in yourself

but if you have to pay for someone to do it its gonna be easily twice that amount

I had the same issue and learned that you could find a newer 04-06 for about 800$ on ebay, but 97-00 were 1700-2000$ on ebay .I dont understand how a used motor w/75k would cost so much. What i ended up doing was buying a wreck from an insurance auction for 500$ with 150,000 kilometers, cutting my mileage in half . The sale of the salvaged parts should cover the initial investment. A friend and I pulled and replaced the motor in about 16hrs niether of us was a mechanic and she now runs like a dream.
