Although this is good info on the anti-drainback valves for keeping the oil filter full so it does not have to refill on startup, this is not the problem for stumbling on startup.

You could run the engine completely dry of oil and it will start and run but it will be noisy and burn up the bearings among other things after a VERY short time. DO NOT DO THIS!!!!

If the engine is running poorly it is likely a fuel delivery problem or an ignition system problem vs. anything having to do with the oil.

i use wix also. i have used motorcraft and it still done this thou. Wix filters in my opinion are better than the motorcraft. I dont believe that they are causing the problem.

I wouldn't say that Wix is "better" than Motorcraft, but Wix does make quality filters.
