John Hennessey explains the ‘why’ behind the VelociRaptor 6×6 while taking it for a spin.

Every year, we see an incredible number of over-the-top rides at SEMA. This year was certainly no exception. But among the many attention-grabbing Ford trucks in attendance, none could top the latest creation from Hennessey Performance: the VelociRaptor 6×6. Based on the already crazy VelociRaptor, the 6×6 does exactly what you’d think it does. It adds six wheels, all driven, to the already formidable truck.

But while pretty much everyone thinks that the $349,000 VelociRaptor 6×6 is incredible, many have asked, why? Why would anyone need something like this? Why isn’t the base truck, with its 600+ hp, brake upgrades, and enlarged wheels and tires enough? Well, John Hennessey himself provides a simple explanation for those simple questions. Why? Because they can.

In all fairness, a six wheel drive vehicle does offer other benefits besides the unquestioned ability to command attention. You’ll obviously get better traction in pretty much any conditions and on any surface. Although Hennessey admits that the lucky folks that purchase the VelociRaptor 6×6 are “probably going to park it in front of a fancy restaurant or a cool hotel.”

So that just leaves one more question – how does this insane off-road limo drive? According to Hennessey, “a lot like the stock Raptor,” though “you can feel like there’s more to the vehicle.” That extra axle and rolling stock does add around 700 pounds to the truck’s weight, but Hennessey claims that it’ll still do 0-60 in only 4.9 seconds. That’s still faster than a stock Raptor, and upgraded Brembo brakes help slow down the heavy beast with no problem.

Obviously, the VelociRaptor 6×6 isn’t for everyone. But it isn’t intended to be. With only 50 slated for production, we’re guessing there are at least that many folks on this planet who’re willing to drop some serious cash for a truck that turns heads like no other.
