Raptor Review

Slash Gear raves about ‘humongous big’ but ‘impressive’ Ford truck.

If you’ve been following this page for any sort of time, you already know that you’ll have a hard time finding any negative press on the new Ford Raptor. Positive Raptor reviews are a dime a dozen, with nary a complaint in sight. But aside from sites run by die hard truck enthusiasts, how do others feel about the new Raptor? Perhaps folks like those from personal tech site Slash Gear?

That drivetrain proved to be almost a little too much. He likens regular driving in the Raptor to ‘feeling like a contestant on Fear Factor.’

Turns out, they love the truck as well. And who can blame them? Reviewer Benjamin Hunting calls it a “Baja missile” that has “few, if any peers.” But as he quickly found out, daily driving one comes with a few concessions. Namely size, with a truck so wide it requires a little extra time scoping out parking spots. And the tuned off road suspension plus incredibly powerful drivetrain requires a little practice on public roads.

That drivetrain, however, proved to be almost a little too much for Hunter. He likens regular driving in the Raptor to “feeling like a contestant on Fear Factor.” The sheer straightline speed of the truck begs for open spaces, after all. Not rush hour traffic. That’s why he calls this the “Ferrari Enzo of trucks,” meaning that it’s a vehicle somewhat wasted on regular old commuting.

The bottom line? The Raptor isn’t for everyone, nor is it intended to be. If you’re timid about driving something with serious power or a bouncy suspension, don’t bother. Clearly Hunter falls into this realm, and he likely has never driven anything bigger than a run of the mill F-150. But the fact that he still rates it as highly as he does proves that even the unlikeliest of folks can’t resist the Raptor’s charms.
