ICON’s New Modular Ford Raptor Bumper Offers Loads of Functionality
Bolt-on Impact Series Armor Bumper and Skid Plate upgrades looks, toughness, and functionality of the Raptor.
As is, the Ford Raptor is quite the off-road weapon. One capable of going just about anywhere, conquering everything in its path and often at high speed. But as with any factory-built rig, the Raptor can certainly be improved in several areas. One of which is up front, where the stock bumper offers up little in the way of functionality. And that’s where ICON Vehicle Dynamics has stepped in to produce a fully modular, highly customizable solution, as we recently discovered at our brother site, Ford Truck Enthusiasts.
ICON’s reimagined Impact Series Armor Bumper is obviously a huge upgrade in terms of appearance over the stock Raptor piece. But despite its radical appearance, it’s also been designed to mesh with the truck’s other lines perfectly. Even better, the bumper is incredibly tough and can hold up to the kind of extreme off-road conditions Raptor owners subject their trucks to. This is due to the use of 1/8-inch steel construction for the skin of the bumper, 1/2-inch steel for the recovery tabs, and 1/4-inch steel for the mounting structures.
But the real magic of ICON’s highly engineered front bumper lies in its modular nature. Owners can customize the look and functionality of the bumper to fit their needs or style preference. The side wings can be removed to make room for three-inch square pod lights, for example. The center section is designed to accommodate a 40-inch curved light bar. The bumper even allows you to retain the factory radar and adaptive cruise control.
Owners seeking an extra layer of protection can also add ICON’s optional Impact Series Skid Plate. The beefy piece is constructed of 3/16-inch aluminum and helps protect the lower control arm pivots. The bumper’s recovery points are relocated higher than the factory location for improved ground clearance while retaining off-road functionality. They also fit standard 7/8-inch shackles and accessories. Both pieces are finished in a durable black powder coat.
The Impact Series Off-Road Armor Bumper and Skid Plate are available now with a retail price of just under $1,800 for the complete set. Those looking to add the parts individually can expect to pay a hair under $1,600 for the bumper and around $420 for the skid plate. Both are direct bolt-on pieces for the second-gen Raptor and require no fabrication or special tools. And even better, they use OEM bumper mounting locations. Upgrading the looks, toughness, and functionality of your Raptor just doesn’t get any easier than that!
