‘Mr. Happy’s’ Ford F-150 wasn’t worth much money, but it was priceless to one North Carolina church.

Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, joy, and celebration. But this year, it was a time of sorrow for the folks at Asheville Family Church in Asheville, North Carolina. Because some real-life Grinch decided to relieve the church of thousands of dollars in donated equipment, including their beloved 1988 Ford F-150.

 Truck

The red F-150 wasn’t just another truck to the congregation, after all. In fact, it carried a very special meaning to all those who spend time at the church each week. “The thing is, the person who donated it passed away last Christmas, and he left it to the pastor,” church member Danny Scarborough told local news source WLOS. The truck’s donor, known as “Mr. Happy,” was a much beloved man to the children in the community.

“We knew it as Happy’s truck,” added fellow church goer Susan Morris. “In the summertime, we made a pool in the back of it, and he gave it to the church and he gave it knowing we would be able to continue to do that for the kids. He was so close to the kids, and they loved him so much.”

The old Ford F-150 had dented fenders and a missing brake assembly. But it also brought a lot of joy to the small Asheville congregation. And even though the value of the stolen tools probably exceeds that of the red pickup, the church would rather have it back. Because the spirit and the man it represented simply can’t be replaced with money.

Still, the missing truck is a reminder of just how great a man Mr. Happy was. “He would probably be discouraged that someone would take it, but, at the same time, he would pray for that person, as all of us will,” said Morris.
