Golden God: ’65 F-100 Has it All: Low, Show and Go

1965 F-100

Stunning Ford F-100 proves that you can have it all in just one truck.

When it comes to classic trucks, many decisions must be made during the build process. And many of those decisions often require compromise. After all, you can’t have a lowrider show truck that’s also capable of driving cross country. Unless you can. Because that’s exactly what this 1965 F-100 is — the trifecta of classic trucks. We spotted the do-it-all Ford at Barrett-Jackson Orange County, where it hammered for a very reasonable $26,400.

At first glance, you can’t help but notice that this ’65 sports a traditional Southern California lowrider look. The House of Kolor Kandy Copper paint, custom graphics, and chrome Daytons with whitewalls would lead you to believe this is nothing more than a boulevard cruiser. The same goes for the fish tail exhaust and shaved, seamless body.

But instead of the customary hydraulics, the truck uses an airbag setup to make the ride capable of real world driving. The suspension was dropped using 2″ spindles and a 1976 Camaro subframe up front, with a triangulated 4-link out back. All of which makes the old Ford capable of going wherever you want it to go.

And that includes cross country trips. Because not only is this 1965 F-100 a magazine feature truck, but it’s also a veteran of the 2008 Gumball 3000. If you’re not familiar with the race, the “3000” in the title stands for 3,000 miles. Each year, the race takes a different route. In 2008, the ’65 traveled from San Francisco to Beijing.

So if anybody ever tells you that you can’t have a lowrider/show truck/long distance hauler, just show them this ’65 F-100 as proof that you can. Better yet, build your own trifecta of a classic Ford and show them that you can in fact have your cake and eat it too.
