Ford Raptor Tackles Azusa Caynon, Does Big Burnouts
Whether you own a Raptor or just a regular four-wheel drive truck, this SoCal park is the place to be!
If you own a Ford Raptor and live pretty much anywhere in California, you may be doing yourself a serious injustice. Just a short drive in virtually any direction will land you in an incredible OHV park (Off-Highway Vehicle) chock full of a day’s fun. And one of the best ones we’ve seen lies just 11 miles north of Azusa in the San Gabriel Canyon area.
It’s there that Ford Raptor owner and Instagram/YouTube star 420 Motors spent a recent fun-filled afternoon. The truck’s driver/owner Kevin explains that he visited the area last year, but torrential rain in Southern California forced much of the park to close. Now, with everything dried out, the virtual playground is once again wide open and ready for some hooning!
After a whole bunch of smokey donuts, of course. Once the tires are warmed up on Kevin’s Raptor, he pays the nominal $8 fee to enter the park. What follows is a great day full of rock climbing, mud slinging, and water crossings. All of which the Raptor handles with no fuss, of course. Well, except for smashing some aftermarket lights mounted under the rear bumper following a steep hill climb.
Even the trip to the park is downright beautiful, cruising along scenic Highway 39. The only problem? Dealing with bicyclists who Kevin says are “always in the way, indignant, and in the middle of the road.” But that’s a minor detour for a good day in off-road paradise, right?
Mother Nature, of course, also dictates the size of Azusa’s confines. The less rain, the bigger the play area. And vice versa. The rule makers ask those who come to play not to enter the lake, mostly because you never know how deep it’s going to be. Again, a small price to pay for such a diverse off-road environment!
