F-Series Friday: Whipple Supercharged F-150 Is One Heck of a Sleeper

By -

For around $50k all-in and some simple bolt-ons, you too can turn a Ford F-150 into a muscle car killer at the track.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about the 3rd gen Coyote V8 thus far, it’s that this new dual-injection motor is one of the most mod-friendly mills you’ll ever see. Simple bolt-ons like headers, exhaust, cold-air intakes, and E85 tunes are all you need to tack on an easy 70+ horsepower at the wheels. Upgrade to a blower, and you can easily crank horsepower up past the 700 mark, however. And when you throw, say, a Whipple supercharger on a regular cab, short bed, four-wheel drive Ford F-150, that makes for one heck of a sleeper.

And that’s more than enough to impress YouTuber StangMode, who just so happens to own a pretty darn fast 2018 Mustang GT himself. In this video, Mr. Mode takes a spin with a fella who runs a channel appropriately named Boosted F-150. And he comes away every bit as impressed as we are. After all, we’ve already seen what people are doing with modded Ecoboost pickups. Where’s the love for the V8-powered Ford F-150?

Well, it’s right here. And it makes us wonder why more people aren’t building drag trucks. After all, this is the same powerplant Ford puts in the Mustang, save for minor differences. Stuff a 2.9-liter Whipple blower on it, and you’re going to make some massive power. And this Ford F-150 now runs consistent 1.6-second 60 foot times, even without the help of drag radials.

And even though it looks pretty sporty with a 2/4 drop, this Ford F-150 still catches plenty of people by surprise. Boosted F-150 admits that he shocks people “weekly.” “We’ve caught GT-Rs, we’ve caught Z06s. We’ve caught Mustangs, supercharged Mustangs, Hellcats.”

And who can blame them? It’s hard to fathom a Ford F-150 being this fast. But it’s clear that StangMode won’t be caught off guard when those two line up in the future. “Yo, is that real life?” he asks after the first pull. “That can’t be real life. On this same road, I drove the 2018 Roush Mustang. There’s no contest.”

High praise, indeed. Throw in the sleeper appeal, and it’s enough to make us want to go build a drag Ford F-150 for ourselves!
