Why Does This F-150 Sound Like a Helicopter?

Ford Raptor

This EcoBoost could provide backup audio for a Schwarzenegger film.

While wandering around the F-150 subreddit, we found a most alarming video. It’s an F-150, and it’s making the most unusual noise we have ever heard. It sounds like there is a helicopter hovering over the truck, and it only happens when coasting or braking. It goes away under acceleration. The truck is a 2017 with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine.

This guy is looking for help to figure out his problem, and we couldn’t think of anyone who might know better than you guys. So has anyone ever seen or heard this kind of noise in your F-150 before? Does anyone have any idea what it might be? The thread on Reddit only has a handful of comments, and unfortunately, none of them seem too helpful. We do like that the top comment is “GET TO THE CHOPPA,” but that doesn’t get us any closer to understanding what’s going on here. User Ride_Red_Fred suggested an oil change and stated that their truck makes a softer version of that noise when it gets close to an oil change.

That makes no sense to us and sounds like a serious problem, to be honest, but we don’t own a new EcoBoost F-150. Our Ford truck is a ’65, so we are a little out of the loop on all the new, fancy engine noises. Sound off in the forums if you think you can solve this cacophonous conundrum.

If we can get this figured out in a timely manner, maybe we can turn the thread into something about our favorite action movies.
