Size Matters: F-150 Bests Full-Size Truck Competition
Denver Business Journal wastes zero time declaring a winner. And we were definitely not surprised by the results.
For those of us that already own Ford trucks, there is no question in our minds which full-size truck rules the market. We already know that the Dodge Ram, GMC Sierra, and Chevy Silverado pose no real threat to the dominant F-150. After all, it’s no coincidence that the F-Series has remained America’s best-selling vehicle for decades. But for some reason, journalists still feel compelled to conduct comparison tests.
We guess it’s necessary to keep an eye on just how far back the competition remains each year. Yet most publications at least wait until the end to declare the F-150 a superior choice. But Ben Miller of the Denver Business Journal didn’t waste any time in his latest review. Miller admits that he wasn’t a brand devotee heading into the comparison, but that all changed once he spent time behind the wheel of two F-Series trucks.
“If I were in the market for a full-sized pickup truck, I wouldn’t have any reservations picking a Ford,” Miller admits. “I’m very familiar with the competition. Last year, I tested full-sized models from Chevy/GMC and Ram, where I preferred the Ram’s V8 Hemi engine over the GMC’s engine. But the Fords were overly impressive to turn me into a fan.”

Miller drove both a 2017 F-150 and F-250, and admittedly enjoyed both. Despite being a little taken back by the mammoth size of the Super Duty, that is. But he raved over the truck’s comfort, technology, and capability. And after extensive wheel time, he emerged with a personal favorite.
“If I were building my dream truck, I’d probably opt for an F-150 with the “King Ranch” option package, which would add about $6,000 to the test F-150’s price tag, but then I’d have the massaging seats for long trips.”
Solid choice, we’d say. But the again, you can’t really go wrong here. Unless you pick one of those “other” brands, that is.
