You Can Still Buy a New F-150 for Less Than $20,000

By -

You won’t find any frivolous options on this new F-150, but it does come with one heck of a low price tag.

Most people these days rave about how great the Ford F-150 is, and the critics agree. But all that sustained greatness comes at a price, of course. And if you’ve thought about purchasing a new F-150 lately, you probably think that finding one with a price tag under $30,000 is pretty much impossible. Take a stroll around any dealer’s lot and you’ll see what we mean.

Despite the massive shift from basic, inexpensive trucks to highly optioned, expensive ones, customers are lining up to buy them. The average sale price of the F-Series has jumped considerably over the last few years as former luxury car owners make the switch to pickups. But where does the leave the rest of us – folks who just want a no-frills, basic truck at a reasonable price?

New F-150

Well, despite what you might have heard, that truck still exists. YouTuber Bowtie Performance (don’t let the name fool you) happened upon this 2017 F-150 XL on a local dealer lot. And the regular cab, short bed work truck sports a rather nice price tag. But what kind of new F-150 do you get for that price? One that requires Flintstones style foot power, right?

Well, not exactly. You don’t get fancy chrome or flashy wheels, obviously. Power comes from the base V6 producing a respectable 282 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. That’s good enough to haul 1,900 pounds and tow 5,000 pounds, even with the lower 3.55 gear ratio. Spending a few hundred bucks to get the 3.73 gears will take that towing number up to 7,600 pounds. Plus, the lightweight (just over 4,000 pounds) truck gets 24 mpgs on the highway.

Sticker price for all that? A total of $28,325. But with current incentives, that price plummets all the way down to $18,022, which is a steal for any new truck. It might not come with fancy gadgets and cozy leather, but it’s a truck that’ll get the job done and leave money in your pocket. What more could you want than that?
