F-150 VelociRaptor 6x6 Rear

Hennessey Performance has been showing off its 6×6 VelociRaptor F-150 for over a year, but the 50-unit production run has officially begun.

The newest Ford F-150 Raptor is the most capable production truck that the Motor Company has ever offered. With a specially-tuned version of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 delivering 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque with the help of the new 10-speed automatic transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system, the new Raptor is arguably the greatest off-road production truck ever.

However, as impressive as the new Ford F-150 Raptor is in stock form, some people “need” more out of their off-roading machine. Some folks need 600+ horsepower, others want a higher performance suspension system, and some desire more than four wheels. For those people, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 is the answer.

The 2017-2018 VelociRaptor

If you like the new Ford Raptor, but you want far more power and capabilities, the Hennessey VelociRaptor package might be ideal. For your average Raptor with four wheels, the VelociRaptor package adds new turbo waste gates, a larger intercooler, custom exhaust, a free-flowing intake setup and a tune – all of which lifts the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 from 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque to 602 horsepower and 622 lb-ft of torque. HPE also offers the “VelociRaptor Off-Road Stage 1 Package,” adding the unique front and rear bumper, unique 20-inch wheels wrapped in Toyo off-road tires, and a suspension setup that adds three inches to the overall ride height.

The engine package and the off-road exterior/suspension package will turn your 2017-2018 Raptor into a near-unstoppable pickup, but for those who want to be even more capable in every condition, there is the VelociRaptor 6×6.

Some folks need 600+ hp, others want higher performance suspension, and some desire more than four wheels. For them, Hennessey’s VelociRaptor 6×6 is the answer.

The 6×6 VelociRaptor

As you might imagine, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 includes all of the features mentioned above, but it adds an extra rear drive axle. In addition to the addition rear wheels, the VelociRaptor 6×6 package comes with the body parts needed to give this six-wheel-drive pickup a clean, factory-looking finish.

When Hennessey first showed off the 6×6 VelociRaptor in 2016, it seemed like little more than a cool concept vehicle. The Texas-based tuner continued talking more about the package – going so far as to bring one to SEMA – and now they have announced that they will build 50 examples of the six-wheeled F-150.

If you are interested in having one of the most unique F-150 Raptors in the world, you should order your new truck soon and you should plan to have at least $350,000 ready to hand over. The “base price” of the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 is $349,000 and while that includes everything that you need to create the incredible 6×6 package – that number does not include the optional Brembo brake upgrade, different wheels and tires, exterior lighting upgrades, custom interior layouts and exterior protection parts like skid plates and push bars.

In other words, you can get a Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 for $349,000, but when loaded up, that number will likely climb north of $400k.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
