American Muscle believes changes will be minor and reveals mock-ups of design theories.

Mid-cycle changes to trucks are normally just little cosmetic changes to keep things fresh. And when it comes to the 2018 Ford F-150, no one is expecting huge top-to-bottom changes. Keeping that in mind, everyone is anticipating what to expect with the upcoming 2018 model.

Frank Bisciotti of American Muscle, a popular dealer of F-150 and Ford Mustang parts, has some ideas about what the 2018 Ford F-150 might look like. The truck expert shares some of his great ideas and 2018 F-150 predictions with Off Road Xtreme. Even better, the article includes awesome concept images of Ford’s hotly-anticipated new truck.

With changes focused on the headlights and the grille, one particular concept mock-up of the new F-150 keeps the main design that fans are used to, but with a few tweaks. Gone is the big chrome grille, replaced with a much simpler design that has the Ford emblem front and center. The headlights retain the shape that we’re accustomed to but are changed just enough to complement the simplicity of the new grille.

‘Another thing the mid-cycle refresh allows is differentiation between stylings of the 2015 to 2017 Ford model versus the 2018 and newer.’

Bisciotti is no amateur when it comes to Ford mid-cycle refreshes. “I’ve always thought of [these changes] as an easy way for the manufacturer to breathe life into a ‘stale’ design without having to re-tool their whole assembly plant,” he tells Off Road Xtreme.

However, it’s not all just aesthetics that come into play when truck manufacturers decide to update their design. There’s some fiscal impacts as well. Bisciotti explains: “Another thing the mid-cycle refresh allows, at a dealer/retail level, is differentiation/separation between stylings of the 2015 to 2017 model versus the 2018 and newer. This translates to big manufacturer rebates and consumer savings on the old model…. So on one side, it helps the appearance of the vehicle while on the other side it helps the manufacturer spur business by either attracting value buyers to trade in their old-style vehicle for the latest and greatest.”

So, while Ford F-150 buyers might have hoped for something a little more substantial in the new 2018 model, American Muscle’s Bisciotti and others just expect a minor refresh.

Tell us what you think about American Muscle’s design, and what you might want to change in the upcoming F-150. Do you like the simpler grille, or were you hoping for something else?
