Just the right mix of upgrades makes a great truck even greater.

Choosing a favorite Ford truck is much akin to choosing a favorite flavor of ice cream. They’re all so delicious, each in their own unique way. But if you ask most Blue Oval fans, they’ll likely tell you something from the ’70s. And if you press them even further, probably a restyled ’78 or ’79. From there, personal preferences kick in, but most align with what you see before you – this gorgeous 1978 Ford F-150.

We spotted the gem of a pickup while perusing Old Ride, and failed to find any qualms. Short bed? Check. Four-wheel drive? Yep. It’s even painted resale red, with flawless body and paintwork, we might add.

And then there’s that stance. While many go overboard on lifts with these old four-wheelers, the previous owner of this 1978 Ford F-150 did it just right. It certainly looks mean and menacing, but without towering over traffic or sporting excessive fender gap.

The choice of rolling stock is equally tasteful. In a world filled with mismatched modern black wheels affixed to classic trucks, this whale sports modest 15-inch aluminum rollers. Tires are equally nice 35-inch Mickey Thompson off-road radials. And it all works so well together, doesn’t it?

The interior of this F-150 is every bit as clean as the exterior. Likewise, you won’t find any custom consoles or crazy detailing. Just clean, simple, and mostly original. The only addition is a set of gauges mounted under the dash to help monitor the status of what’s under the hood.

Which, of course, is the legendary 302 V8. Extra grunt comes from an Edelbrock intake, Holley carb, and headers leading to dual exhaust. Again, nothing crazy. But when you’ve got a holy grail of a truck like this 1978 Ford F-150, you don’t need it. All you need is the right combination of tasteful upgrades to make it perfect!
