CONCLUSIONFord has built a thoroughly enjoyable truck that leaves not only its competition, but its current model line back in the stone-age. Handling and braking are unmatched in its class and its styling reminiscent of the Super Duty should bring back the perceived toughness to the line. Interior styling is bold and user-friendly. Build quality, especially for pre-production vehicles, is simply superb. Sure, I see a few small items that need attention, but with the refinement and number of potential configurations to suit any buyer, I see no reason why Ford should not maintain its lead in the light duty truck market. As Ford enters its second century, I believe they have a winner on their hands...and one that is available in far more that basic black. Now convincing my Wife that it's time to trade in the 1997 may be a bit more difficult. |
HIGHS
- Very quiet cabin. - Bold, stylish interior. - Exterior reminiscent of the current Super Duty. - Little to no rear-end bounce under braking or cornering. - Did I mention how quiet it is? - Overhead rail system should make the after market giddy. - Puts the current model (and its competitors) to shame.
LOWS
- The 300hp 5.4 feels underpowered. - The FX4 seats may get a bit uncomfortable during long trips. - Rear visibility hampered by the high tailgate line. - No navigation system available. - My right shin hits the center "flow through" console, bummer. - Does the Blue Oval on the tailgate have to be that large?
