What is the number one complaint of the hundreds of people that have filled out an owner's survey at F-150 Online? Yep, I think you may have guessed it already...GAS MILEAGE. Ford has built a superb truck, great styling, fabulous handling, and awesome Triton engines. As with all trucks though, a major drawback is fuel economy. The K&N air filter provides an inexpensive and simple way to improve your fuel mileage and gain a few extra horsepower at the same time.

The K&N Air Filter is a simple drop-in replacement air filter for your existing "restrictive" air filter. What makes it different (and more efficient) is the design of the filter. Rather than trying to explain it ourselves, here is what K&N Engineering has to say...

"Performance is greatly improved with the K&N Filtercharger. The sandwiched layers of cotton gauze, specially treated with K&N air filter oil, provides five times more filtering surface over the element circumference. This serves to smooth incoming air flow while reducing intake restriction. The increased intake of non-turbulent air allows the engine to receive a larger, smoother gulp of air. The result is "free horsepower" and improved engine performance."

Conclusion: Why wouldn't you install a K&N air filter? They are inexpensive, easy to install and (if my seat of the pants and wallet impression are any indication) do what they claim -- increase gas mileage and improve your truck's performance. In terms of maintenance (to keep it working efficiently), you do want to clean it on periodically with K&N's filter oil. In addition, the filter carries a million mile warranty! If you were to replace your stock filter just three or four times during the life of your truck, you would have paid for a K&N filter. The choice seems simple.
