I might be buying a '88 Chevy C/K 2500 with a plow... it's stick and 4x4. The guy who I am buying this from is a mechanic... and he totally rebuilt the engine... Only gonna cost me $1,200.

The fact thats its a stick is going to suck for plowing. I hope you have a good, cheap source for clutches because if you do a lot of plowing with it you will be burning through clutches like crazy.

You will have gravity to help you doing down the driveway, but how are you going to back up the driveway? With a 4x2 you are going to need to get a good run at it and thats something you might not always be able to do.
My driveway is pretty steep and even with my truck in 4x4 in need to get a good run at it just to make it up when my driveway is icy.

Ohh yea, how well I know, I have made it everytime so far, but it takes momentum. Last winter was the worst winter we have had in 20 years with ice storms that knocked our power out for 12 days and road crews couldn't get the roads cleared at all. The rain was falling and freezing faster than they could spread, not that it was doing alot of good becasue it was not above freezing. I went everywhere. Snow is acrually harder because it piles up infront of the tires. I sure missed my old jeep this year. It could be level with the hood, stick it in 4 lo and it would plow it's way through anyway.

First day I had it, (after I got it running) we had a massive snow storm, the city plowed the road from work... "one lane".... dont ask, dont know why.... the snow walls on the sides of thier path were about 3'-4' tall. I decided to make a trial through them, stuck it in 4 lo. 1st gear, eased out the clutch and we ideled through them to the highway. The guys in thier lifted 4x4, were like but didnt even try to follow me.
When I got to the highway there was so much snow cramed packed underneath I had to crawl underneath and dig the transfer linkage out with my pocket knife so I could get it out of 4lo.

It's got a v8 and it's got like 4.56's... I can pop the clutch in idle, and the truck moves like 3 mph. He's only replaced the clutch once since he's owned it and it has 487,XXX miles on it, but the new clutch has 170k on it. Still has plenty of life. It's geared so high that you have to be really stupid to stall it. I mean REALLY stupid... or not paying attention. It is so low geared that when you drop it in 4lo it moves at like 1 mph at idle while in 1st. That truck is just meant for some serious pulling and pushing.

I wouldn't want to know what mileage it gets on the highway... at 65 mph I'd probably be hitting 3,500 rpms..

With 4.56's.... I don't know if it will hit 65 mph! LOL

I know with 4:11's in the rear, granny gear was a beast of a low gear on those. Dont even think about touching the gas pedal in 4lo and in granny...... you'll wrap them out 8 grand beofre you can lift, but you'd only be doing 5 mph.

The speedometer only goes up to 85 mph... lol

Talk about a jerky truck... I drove it around the other day and when I let off on that gas, all it wanted to do was engine brake. Drove decent though, and it actually passes NYS emissions!

I got it up to about 50 mph and it was pushing 3k. I don't think I'd want to sign my death wish off in it doing anything higher than 50 mph. lol

I also played around with the 4x4. I took it off in my field and did some crazy stuff with it. He didn't care one bit... I went through my 2 1/2 ft ditch with it with no issues in 4x4. I actually went through it straight on. It never let up... Totally different driving experience compared to my F150!!!

Yea you'll learn to keep a steady pedal and only let off to stop and then when you do let off then hit the clutch at the same time. Other wise you'll have whiplash. LOL

you just have to read teh local classifieds,

here is one with a couple allis chambers for under $2K right now.
http://shopping.rollanet.org/listing...218&page=5&c=2
they are both tricycle front end though...... have to have pretty flat land for those.

check that often, there is always new ads daily by the minute.

I'll pick up one of the local papers and read through it, the Weekly Trader will be coming out wednesday, there is always several in it or the local newspaper, there is a couple more classified publications I cant think of teh names of them right now and dont know if they have websites, but I can look for you. In a few months I'd beable to go to auctions and try to get you one, sometimes you can grab a mechanically good one for about $800 at realestate auctions.

What exactly are you looking for, anything inpaticular?
