What do you think about the Vector lightbar on the Police Tahoe? I've heard a lot of bad things about them, but have an offer made to me for one...Opinions?

as for the tow truck, I love the lightbar you have. If you ever decide to give it away...let me know. Some new lenses for me and I'll have a sweet Vol. FF rig...

aside from the FD, my work truck is my personal truck...
I like the Fed Signal lightbars, kinda outdated, the new units all have LED lightbars, but in my opinion, this one is plenty bright. and I like that I can move my alley lights/take downs, Ijust wish they were adjustable up and down, as well as left to right.

Hey Kwikdraw.......
Check these out. The fire in the Escape happened Friday night and the Focus one Happened early this AM.

Don't ask me why, cuz I have no idea, but this guy from a local company was towing a FWD Escape from the rear on the back of his flatbed with a Chevy Cobalt on the deck. As you and I know, towing anything on it's drive tires is simply a bad idea.... As I see it, he hooked up the car and was too lazy to drop it and turn it around (FWD Only escape!)to tow it from the front. He made it the distance of about 25-30 miles on our local turnpike around 65 mph. And he actually did not know why it caught fire...DUH. I asked the guy why he didn't load the Cobalt on the back and the Escape on the deck and he said cuz he was in a hurry.... Nuf said. I had to tow it to a Parking lot off the highway so he could swap them.

The picture of the Focus was also from the Masspike. The lady was driving 65-70 when a tire and rim from the tractor trailer in front of her broke off and hit her. She escaped with some scratches.....Very lucky she was.

What happened?? The truck caught fire from towing it on its drive axle. I've been in towing buisness for about 11 yrs now and ever since I can remember it has been said that you do not tow on the driveaxle unless,....it is a short distance and/or you keep it under 30 mph. This guy was going 60+ for about 25 miles and overheated the transmission fluid to the point it caught fire. If the engine is not running and fluid is not circulating, nothing is being lubed up. In my expierence, driving up to this scene, I immediately knew everything pointed to it.(the transmission being the cause AND opperator error of course) The car is FWD, it was being towed backwards on a highway, the fire started in the front of the vehicle. Someone chime in if I am wrong please.

Yes, you are correct.

I owned an Escape and it was by far the WORST vehicle I have ever owned from Ford. FYI.

I am glad that another caught on fire. I hated that ********** SUV.

What's great is one time the Escape I had got rear ended, and the tow truck driver came by with a tow truck to tow it dragging the rear wheels. He didn't know that it was AWD until 10 miles down the road his truck was severely bogging down. LOL Burnt up the transmission.... too bad it didn't create enough heat to catch on fire... LOL darn...

By chance, do you got any more photos of that Escape?

I'm still a little sick at my stomach looking at it! I'm amazed at how often and for how long people will tailgate a trailer truck! I've seen that type of thing a number of times in my 40 years of driving, usually with a completely different outcome for the driver of the car!
