12 and 14mm stud question

I know I have 12mm studs on my 98 but does anyone know when the 4x4's changed to 14mm? I heard the 4x2's changed in 2000 but the 4x4's might have changed earlier. Anyone know the date? I am looking to buy a set of wheels from a 99 4x4

4x4's changed in the middle of 2000 also. A local machine shop can drill out the holes bigger, if they won't do it for insurance reason's just get a drill and the right size bit and do them yourself if you know what your doing.

I think that was the info I was looking for but I have 12mm and shouldn't have to drill anything. I am really looking to figure out if I am at risk of ending up with a 14mm set of wheels off a 4x4. I appreciate the help.

IF you use acorn style nuts on 12mm studs on wheels with 14mm holes you'll be fine, I'm not sure if standard lugs will work also, but you'll be fine if you can use acorn's.

12 to 14-

Hey, that works the other way too.

I had a 1999 F-150 S/C Flareside. I traded it in on a 2000 Expedition. Both were 4 x 2, both were 5 x 135mm, but the 2000 had a 14mm lug, and my A/R Atlas' were made to fit my 1999 S/C, which were 12mm.

The holes lined up perfectly, the guy told me my lug nuts wouldn't work, and I needed to go buy twenty 14mm RHT acorn lugs. One trip to discount tire, and 30 bucks later, the 14mm 2000 XLT Sport Expedition was mounted with the A/R Atlas wheels that I sported on my 12mm 1999 S/C Flareside. (My acorn lugs were the long chrome ones, not the short stubby ones... If that makes a difference. Purchased at Discount Tire.)

Different wheel manufacturers may turn out different end-results, but my AR Atlas' bolted up with no drama, and I went up in Lug size. You should be OK coming down from 14mm holes to 12mm lugs.

Expy-
Had- 295/65/16's mounted on A/R Atlas'
Have- 275/55/20's mounted on A/R Vanguard's...

Question

I've been wanting to switch to a different 17" stock rim, from a later model. How much effect does the larger lug size have on this change? My stock 16" wheels had lug holes that were quite a bit larger than the lugs. Is there any real danger in switching to a later model stock rim??,,,,,98
