If you want 50K out of a off-road tire it will have to be an all terrian type tire. BFG's get great road milage, not loud at all, handle is only OK, off-road they really pull, main dowside is price. You can get Pro Comp's AT and they have a 50K mile guarantee not sure of all the other details on them.

Cooper's get about 30-60K usually
Stay away from Futura's, crappy tire, nuff said

i agree with him about the BFG's being good tires and the futuras being crappy. i had BFG's and loved them then went with futuras (for money reasons) and theyre terrible.

Michelin LTX AT

Michelin LTX AT's, a great multipurpose tire that will go 60,000 to 70,000 miles.

I have used BFG All-Terrain TA and TA kos on 2 Rangers and got 50000 out of them. Then I bought an 02 F150 w/ the Goodyears, within a month I had BFGs on it and the difference was significant. It is like a new truck on wet hard top and logging trails. Price can be a differentiator though.

Go with the Michelins.......farrrrrrrrrrrrrr better combined tire than the BFG. You will get more mileage out of them and they r also much softer and quieter at speed. I used to run BFG and I am a convert........Michelin has the edge. They also wear better too.

Cooper

I have some 31" Coopers.... They are the Discover S/T's and I love them.... You can here some whine when you go down the road from them, but they work excellent on the road and off the road. I would defiantly invest in them again!

I vote for the Procomp AT's. They also come in a better size for the 17 inch wheels. Most other companies you are stuck with stock size.

sorry in advance, maybe I'll actually read all of the replys before jumping in one day, but not today.

Are you looking for the best 'Off-Road' tire for driving every day off-road or . . .

The best 'Off-Road' tire for everyday driving on paved roads as these are very differant tire requirements.

or. . . do you want the best 'On-Road' tire that has the styling of a 'Off-Road' tire.

If you do 90 or more percent of your driving on paved roads I recommend you totally drop the notion of installing real 'Off-Road' tires. Go buy the Michilin LTX A/T, they perform very well on the road and in light off-road environments, have great all-season capibilities, a great ride, run quite and last a long time.

I have had good experiance with Bridgstone Dueler AT also. I don't recommend BFG Long Trail TA, they were a big disappointment for me and I can't wait untill I wear them out. (I drive 50-75,000 miles per year so it won't be much longer. I decided to try out the new Michilin Cross Terrains next. . . that is unless some of you have had bad experiance with them.

Question 35s

I'm lookin' at 35s, and I definitely want someting that will last. My off-road driving probably makes up less than 2% of my total milage. So, it's between the BFG A/Ts, ProComp A/Ts, & Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTXs. I think I can get 50k out of any of these. The Mickeys seem to be the cheapest. I want something that handles well & is not *too* loud on the highway. I'll gladly pay the extra bucks per tire for the BFGs if the handling is really *that* much better.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

35's??? Will you be regearing the rear from 3.55 to 4.10, or operating with overdrive turned off?

Stickin' with 3.73s for now

For right now, I'm gonna stick with the 3.73 gears I currently have. Once I get the 35s, I'll see how it feels.

The 3.73s work good with the 35s. Yes it was a noticeable difference when I went from the stock tires to these tires but it still performs great. I drove a f-150 with 35s and 3.54 GR and it was a night and day difference between mine and his.

So I will stick with the 3.73s unless there ever is a need to open the differentials up for a different problem.

However, it does like to jump in and out of overdrive a lot though when you are cruising.
