285/75/16
Hi, I'm looking to give my truck a nice stance and would like to replace some 225/75/16 tires with some 285/75/16 tires. My question is how well will they fit on stock rims? Are they going to be too wide for stock wheels. Also is there going to be a problem with rubbing and if so is it a big deal? (I have a 2wd truck) I have about an inch above stock ride due to some coil spring spacers.

are you sure about the 225/75-16 OEM tire size? I thought that with the new body style Ford went to 255/70-16's
one of my neighbors has a 98 F150 4WD with 285/75-16 BFG A/T KO on the factory rims, no lift kit, no rubbing or other problems.
a guy at work has a 97 F150 with 235/85-16 Michilin XLT's and no problems.

I can't explain why anyone would put such a small puny tire on that truck other then he replaced the worn out OEM size with them so he could say 'It has new tires on it too.'
you can run the 265/75-16's with no problems at all, your speed-o-meter will be about 3 MPH slow, but then it's likily 5-7 fast now (reads 65 MPH when your going 60 MPH) and that could take some getting used to.

I had a 94 F250 4X4 Heavy Duty and I put 285/75/16 on stock sized rims and they rubbed. I had to do some shimming to get them not to rub on turns. Petrol says his neighbor has this setup, but it is hard for me to beleive they don't rub, I am willing to bet on a 2wd they will rub. But maybe the new trucks have more room than I am thinking.
