I was at our local Costco Warehouse this weekend and as I am in dire need of new tires stopped by the Auto section

The only ones they had for my F-150, 97, SuperCab
2x4 were called (I think) Michelin X- Radials.

$130 each out the door. What do you all think of these - I'm talking 99% highway driving, and also a need to keep things cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Any other low end suggestions?

 

i have seen tires a lot cheaper. use www.1010tires.com or www.tirerack.com they both have really good prices. go see what discount tire can do for you too.

 

Michelins aren't cheap tires.
You aren't going to do much better than $130 per wheel out the door.

There are cheaper tires. I've seen ads for four 16" tires for $249 but, you get what you pay for.

You also have to consider all the add ons, valve stem, old tire disposal. When you are comparison shopping make sure you ask for the out the door price to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

(If it was me, I'd spend the $520 and be done with it)
(Because, so much is riding on your tire)

 

Make sure you add up the shipping prices for any of the online vendors! Tires are HEAVY!!!!

What is the brokerage or duty fees? How to find out how much, how paid, how arranged??? Couldn't find it on the site. Just sais as the responsibility of buyer to arrange.

Found it....

Duties are charged by U.S. Customs for orders going in to the U.S.A. They apply to products made outside of Canada, United States, and Mexico. Most of the time it is 2.5% to alloy wheels, and 4% to tires. This is charged on a C.O.D. basis by UPS when they deliver your order to you.

Brokerage is a fee charged by UPS to clear the order through customs. This is charged on a C.O.D. basis by UPS when they deliver your order to you. Here is how it works out:

$0.00 to $200.00 order value is not charged brokerage (free)
$200.01 to $1250.00 order value is charged $19.00 brokerage
$1250.01 to $2000.00 order value is charged $29.00 brokerage
Each additional $1000.00 order value is an extra $1.50 brokerage

There is also a ‘disbursement fee’ attached to this. This is a fee for UPS to pay your duties to U.S. Customs in advance of them collecting it from you. This amount is $5.00 or 2% of the duties (whichever is larger). If your order is exempt from duties, then no disbursement fees would be charged.

Buying 5 tires that I want @ $639.95 I calculate duty and brokerage to be $58.42. Thats still over $80 cheaper than any the best price I've found in the last 6 months.

Anyone had any experience with 1010tires ????

 

Won't there be some expense in getting the tires onto your rims?
and what about balancing?
valve stems?
Can you dump your five old tires (legally) without a disposal fee?

Raoul, yes you are correct. I did not add the mounting, blanceing, stems, or tax for these yet. (I'm comparing apples to apples)

But I have compared tax and/or shipping from other sources as well. I've been maintaining a spreedsheet of tire sources with price, tax, shipping, duties, fees, ect.

As well as local mounting, balanceing, stems, disposal fees, and the local'state tax for these services. It is also noted that some tire places charge more for mounting services when they are not mounting their own tires that they sell.

 

sams and costco is the way to go! I just spent a month researching tires (Pain)

yes the online stores have good prices (Not great) if you don't have special needs (Mudders, odd size etc) these clubs are a good way to go.

you get life time (Of the tire) balancing,rotating, and road hazzard included in the price. And you can go to any club anywhere in the US to have these services performed

fo example i went to sears because they were having a sale on BFG T/KO's for the 255 70 16's they wanted $136.00 each I thought WOW great price! But if you want them mounted it will cost you another $12.00 per if you want road hazzard only up to 25% of tread wear and rotation that is an additional 16.00 per! then with all the taxes and such it came out to almost $35.00 per tire extra! The cheapest i could get out the door was $620.00 I got the same deal at sams out the door for $430.00!!!

remeber if you buy tires online you still have to get rid of your old tires have the new ones mounted so make sure you factor all that in!

at the one i went to they ordered ltx m/s tires for me
(they got me the size i wanted as well)

they did not stock them, but told me they could order whatever michilin had to offer.
