I am not a Materials Engineer, but I assume it is because steel is stronger than aluminum. IE. it can handle more pressure per unit area....needed for hauling or towing heavy loads where a greater pressure is placed on the rims themselves...
I'm not sure about wheel type,but if strenght was an issue with alum. why do the f250/f350 xlt & lariat's have aluminum wheels.
I don't think strenght is an issue with aluminum wheel's.
Do a search for a thread on this forum. There's a few out there but I don't know the links. I think American racing was one of them. JupiterAK can point you in the right direction.
