Greetings! Quick question for the group today related to new tires that I will soon need to get for my 2007 F150 Screw 4x4 with 20" wheel option.
I am looking to keep the stock wheels.
I was looking at the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 All Terrain tires and came up with the following and I wanted to see if either of these would work on my set up:

LT 275/65R20 E 126/123S
According to Nitto's website, this appears to be a 34.09" x 10.98 tire with an approved rim of 7.5-(8.0)-9.5

Or

LT 285/65R20 E 127/124S
According to Nitto's website, this appears to be a 34.57" x 11.50 tire with an approved rim of 8.0-(8.5)-10.0

Lots of un sure folks don't want to steer you wrong. Myself included.

I run the Rancho Quiklifts with their 2" sagged level, and run 295/60-20 Trail Grapplers. It clears just fine. The specs are 34x12. Once I put my wheel spacers on for the negative offset look they didn't clear as well.

The 285/65 I would be careful with. That is a good bit of height but the width is just fine. You could clear a 12.5" M/T tire so a 11.5" A/T will be fine. You should be fine to clear them but I won't guarantee you won't need to take the corners off your valance.

The 275s however will fit fine and fill in that newly added wheel gap.

So, let me ask this - would it be a common request to go to a tire shop (ideally the same place where you would actually buy the tires) and "try on" new tires? If I am undecided between the two sizes above (or any other size), am I SOL if the size I pick does not fit or look good to me? Would it be somewhat common to test fit tire sizes before purchasing?

I also have a 2" Autospring level kit that I will need to decide if I want to get put on as well.

If you put on the leveling kit, then both sizes should fit fine. As Darren said, the 285s might rub a little if you run them without the leveling kit. I have a 2.5" level with 275/65/20 trail grapplers on wheels that are close to factory wheel specs, and they don't rub any. The deciding factor for me between 275s and 285s was price. Most tires that I looked at, the 285s were $50+ more per tire than the 275s, and to me the extra 1/2" wasn't worth it.

 

I have a 2.5" level on my '07 FX4. Toyo AT II's 305/55/20's on stock rims. They rub at full lock, no other fit issues.
