Question Stock 08 FX4?

I recently bought a 08 FX4. It has the factory 20" wheel package. My question is how can I tell if I have a leveling kit on it? Many people tell me it looks as though it does but I am not sure how to tell. And whats the biggest tire size I can put on it with or without the level kit? I was looking to step down to a 18" or 17" wheel as tires will be cheaper, but is that possible or will the rotors be too big for a smaller wheel? Any help would be appreciated. Fyi I have a pic of my truck in my album and as my avatar if anyone wants to take a look.

Depending on the type of leveling kit, you can look at the top of the coil pocket, if you see a spacer you have a leveling kit. If it has leveling struts you can just compare whats installed to stock photos of bilstein 5100's or rancho leveling struts.

Another easy way to tell is to look at your ball joint, tie rod end, and cv angles. On a stock truck they'll be relative parallel to the ground. On a leveled truck they'll be angled downward.

As for wheels you can step down to a 17" wheel. Tire size will be pretty dependent on what wheels you go with, but in general stock wheels or ones with similar backspacing and width can fit around a 33" tire on a non-leveled truck and 35" on a leveled truck.

Thanks for the info ill take a look in the morning at the coils and see what I can fine. Im thinking of going with a 17×9 with a -12mm offset and 4.5" back spacing(fuel dune black). Id really like the wheels and tires to stick out of the wheel wells a bit to give a wider stance. But I dont want to put a huge lift on it. Thanks for the reply!

That is a very common wheel spec, but you will be limited to a 33 inch tire with those.

now does that take into account i have a leveling kit on it? i just checked this morning and i see the spacer in the coil spring pocket. so im going to say a 1.5-2" level. or better yet what backspacing and offset would i need to fit a 35" tire on it?

35" tire with a leveling kit you'll want a stock wheel or one as close as possible to that. So around 7-7.5" wide with around 5.5" of backspacing to keep rubbing to a minimum. Problem is stock wheels aren't very wide so you don't really want to go with a tire wider than 12".
