2002 FX4 17" alloy wheels losing clear coat

I have this wheel on my 2002 FX4:

The clear coat has been peeling for a while and I want to keep these wheels.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

A cheap solution is to sand the wheels and spray on a clear coat. Ensure that all of the old clearcoat that is peeling has been removed.

This may leave sanding marks in the aluminum if the clear is gone, so you may want to spray a primer and base coat of silver (or whatever color) after sanding.

Anyone know of a service that specializes in wheel restoration, or would it be cheaper to find wheels that still have a good finish on them.

This is why you wax your wheels. It's a clear coated surface.always wax your wheel fascia.

Check out Wheels America. They restore and fix factory wheels. I used them some years back and they did beautiful work on a wheel damaged in a wreck.

Generally speaking, most body shops have sources for wheel repair/refinishing.

I would have, if I had been in possession of the vehicle before the clear started to peel. At least the paint hadn't started having issues with clear coat and I wax it regularly.
BTW, anyone know how to remove those pesky water spots (also there before I owned the truck) on the paint. I use Maguire's cleaner wax, maybe I need to use something before I wax it???

If you plan on fixing the clear coat, don't bother waxing. You'll just make it harder on yourself.
