WOW What a lot of brake dust on my newer truck

There are 2 things that i really hate and they are bad wipers that streak and brake dust on my wheels.

This question is about brake dust.
I went from a 1999 F-150 XLT to a 2008 Lariat FTX Tuscany.
I would get brake dust on my 99 chrome wheels but nothing like what i get on the 08 chrome wheels. It really builds up fast, is there any reason for one generating more dust than the other?

Is anything bigger on the 08 than the 99 to create more dust?

Any solutions?............What are you guys seeing??

The oem brake pads on 04 and up models are junk, this was first thing I replaced on my 05 due to the dust build up. There are many quality brands out there and not all that expensive. I went with ceramic, still the same pads since 05 and no dust.

Just change the pads. I changed mine in my 2005 with only 11,000 miles. Went with TheroQuiets, semi metallic. That is the only pad I use now.

Thats good news for me, Thanks

Is there any difference in dust with semi metallic or metallic pads versus ceramic which i am now reading about or is it personnel preference one you get away from OEM?

Use the search button at the top, do searches on Wagner ThermoQuiets, semi metallic and ceramic and see if you don't get more senders than you need. I don't think you can go wrong with any good brand, either semi metallic or ceramic. Even the Ford replacement is said to be dustless. It's just the soft OEMs that are a problem.

My Centric ceramics are virtually dust-free.

I went with the Wagner ThermoQuiet, semi-metallic pads on my '08. They are an affordable pad with very little brake dust. I hate all of the dust from the Ford OEM pads.

I asked a guy at Meineke by my house because i was curious about a price and he told me the truck probably already has ceramic pads.

Is this true? its a 2008, in reading everyone's responses i am sure i can find someting that has lees brake dust then what is occurring now.

He also said $199.00 that sure seems high for front pads?

If they are factory, they are not ceramic.

Every new Ford I've owned has had excessive brake dust.

It goes away with use and replacement.

Switch to semi-metallic pads regardless.

Fords are notorious for brake dust on the OEM pads. Swap out to Semi Metallic pads and the problem goes away...

FWIW, a lot of folks swear by the Wagner Thermo Quiets, I tried them and did not care for them. I am using PowerStop pads right now, have used EBC Greenstuff 6000s in the past. When I wear out the current PowerStop pads I will likely throw a fresh set of Greenstuffs back on...

I have not had the dust problem with the OEM pads on my 2011 with 78,000 miles. Had it so bad on my 2005 that I changed pads at 11,000 miles.

I've been expecting the dust on my 13 with only 6500 miles on it, but it's yet to show any, even on the inside of the wheel... Well, lets say "significant" amount on the inside..

I'll be rotating the tires soon, so that will really tell me what's going on, but so far, I'm pretty impressed with the OEM's..

I too go with a decent semi metalic pad when I need them.. I did like the Thermo Quiets I had on the 97..

Good luck!

Mitch
