285/70 or 285/75 on Leveled 2WD?
Hey guys,
So I am very aware that this question has been absolutely beat to death, however I haven't found an old thread that answered my question based on the situation I'm in (close, but no cigars )
Anyway, I have a 2007 XLT with stock 265s and standard chrome plated steel wheels (both of which I dislike). There's definitely some rake to contend with so I'm leaning towards a 2.5" AS. However, since it is a 2x4 and sits lower than a 4x4 stock, I'm also looking into the AS 2.5" w/ rear add-a-leaf. All installations would be done elsewhere as I just don't have the tools or space. What do you guys think of that setup? I know AS kits are highly thought of by most but will the rear add-a-leaf give me a bit more lift?
Okay, now on to tires and wheels (hopefully wandell chimes in on this one ) I'll introduce wheels first so we know backspacing right off before tire talk commences. Wheels are going to be Pro Comp 1079s. They've got -6mm offset and 4.75in of backspacing. To the tires! I'm looking at the 33"ish range...285/70/17 nittos and dynapros would be the more conservative option if the Pro Comp's backspacing would throw me off. I've found you can find a tall(er) 285/75/17 for a similar price as the 285/70s and would obviously be interested in more height if possible. Rubbing issues there? The 285/70s are 32.7" in diameter and the 285/75s are 33.8. I'm concerned as 2x4s sit a good bit lower than their 4x4 counterparts.
Any help/pics that you guys could provide me with so that I make the right decision would be much appreciated!

The backspacing on those wheels will cause you to do some plastic trimming if you go bigger than the 33s and maybe even with the 33s. Since you are 2007 the 2.5 inch kit will leave you slightly nose high, so if you don't want that I would get rear block or add a leaf as well. Aal stiffens the rear up, so unless you tow our haul a lot a new block may be better.

Alright so I've done a bit more looking in regard to leveling kits and have decided that I'll go with a rear 4x4 spacer (1.5") as oppose to the aal. In addition, I found a Rough Country kit that comes with their nitro 9000 shocks for the rear...would you guys recommend this? It's about $65 more but if it's worth it, why not. Lastly, if I were to go with a 285/75 how much trimming would be required/how much of a PITA would it get to be? Thanks again

From what I understand from reading on forums too often you will have to trim lower plastic on front bumper and plastic in rear of front wheelwell. Check this dude out. Leveled 2wd with 35s and low offset wheels.

That is correct, from the pics above from rob, I would guess his offset is at least +18 if not more as they sit flush with the wheelwells. Rob, what are your wheels specs? My wheels are eight inches wide with +25 offset and sit flush. When the wheels are centered in the wheelwells it allows largest tire fitment.

Do you guys think I could fit 285/75 (33.8) with a 3" block? However, would it then have more rake than stock? I would think 1.5" of the rear block would help it to stand like a 4x4 then an additional 1.5" of rear block and 2.5" front level would help to accomodate a 33.8. I just keep seeing "larger-than-33" tires with the 4x4 stock block + 2.5 level and rear blocks and love em.

Wow your truck looks awesome! I love the black/maroon combo and bedliner on bumpers. I'm leaning toward the 285/75 (33.8") tires now.... Does this mean I could just get a 1.5" stock 4x4 block and 2.5" AS and have the stance of a regular 4x4 with 2.5" AS? The pro comps have a -6mm offset and 4.5" BS though so I might shop around for wheels more similar to stock specs...which, if my memory serves me correctly are about 5.5" BS? Thanks again guys for being so helpful.
