Ceramic Front Pads
2007 F150 XL, 4.2 V6, 139K Miles
Hello all. I usually buy WAGNER THERMO-QUIET pads. The current pads on the front have 40K miles on them. I just recently had some raised white letter tires put on my truck. The WTQ's are supposed to be low dust, but ARE NOT. My white letters are black!
Q? What is a good ceramic pad, priced low, that has less dust then what I currently have on my truck? RockAuto has POWER STOP ceramic pads for $26. They also have AKEBONO ceramic pads for $56. Keeping in mind I'm on a budget, which would be better, last longer, and low dust? Or, are they about the same?

I had a set of those on the front of my 2003 and they lasted 115k miles with *NO* dust. Recommend you have the rotors turned on the truck. Rotor replacement is expensive because they are integral with the hub, and the spindle nut requires 295 ft/lb torque if you remove them.

I was looking at those CENTRIC pads as well. That's good to know, that someone has used a product with great results.
I changed my front pads at 92K miles. I didn't turn the rotors because they were smoother than a baby's a**. I did a circular pattern on them with emery cloth. I will have to mic them to see if they need to be changed.
Anyone know the minimum thickness?

The only place that might be is cast into the rotor itself.
Now - if you do have to replace the rotors, Centric has a 2 piece conversion kit that uses the 4wd rotors.

The picture is wrong, this is a 2 piece upgrade kit according to Centric. I don't think it comes with a new spindle nut (NOT reusable):

I was looking at that option as well. EBAY has 2 rotors, hubs, and ceramic pads for $133-$197. The spindle nut is $8.12. The rotors and the pads both have a lifetime warranty.

I used raybestos EHT pads front and rear on my 08. Ive got to say they are probably the best pad ive ever used. they are definitely low dust and reasonably priced. I also used the raybestos professional rotors for the front (mine is a 2wd as well). I though about going with the centric bearing kit, but for the price i couldnt say no. i went over 70k on front rotors before they warped and needed replacement. i doubt ill have the truck that long again which is why i didnt upgrade to 4x4 front rotors and centric hubs.

The rotors came with a new spindle nut as well which was a huge bonus!
