If it was built in August, 2004, it should have the same calipers as the 2005s. You would need the 1083s on the front, MX1083 for semi-metallic or QC1083 for ceramic.

with brake/suspension parts just look up model year 2005 to avoid the confusion. 2004 had both the new model and "heratige edition" which was a rebadged 2003. This is why ordering parts for a 2004 can be confusing.

It's even worse than that. Some of the early NBS had a smaller rotor. The wheels won't fit on the later 2004s.

first I have heard of this I have performed TSB 05-21-19 on multiple early 04s and i can assure you I have never needed to install different wheels. The rotors are the same size but have better cooling fins just like later models and the calipers installed are the same as later models as well. Does this only apply to aftermarket wheels maybe?

It was my understanding that the calipers on the early 2004s were smaller and it applied to both factory and aftermarket wheels, but I may be misunderstanding the problem. Been a long time ago when it last came up. I bet Wandell would know.

yes the calipers are smaller and update to the larger ones on the tsb. im assuming this only applies to aftermarket wheels that were desighned around the early model 04.

That could very well be correct on the wheels. But, if the calipers were smaller, did they not use a smaller pad than the later calipers?

pads are all the same, the caliper braket that holds the pads is actually re-used with the new calipers. I THINK the pistons are larger on the new calipers making them larger but come to think of it I never really looked to closely at them.

Ok, that is good to know. Then by bringing that up, all i did was confuse the issue.

haha no worries i know how confusing those 04s are, half the time when our parts department has to resort to aftermarket parts stores we get the wrong parts for 04s. Which is why i usually say 05 when it comes to anything but engine parts
