18" BFG A/T "+1's" on an 04 Supercrew 4x4?

I've got an 04 Supercrew Lariat with the 18" wheels. I want to switch to BFG A/T's because I've had good luck with them in the past on other trucks but the only size they offer them in that is compatible is a 285/65 which is essentially an inch wider from what I can tell. Is anyone running these on their rig and how do you like them? It's either I go with these, or a snag a set of 20" 07 takeoffs with the Pirelli's on them off of Ebay. Either way the price comes out nearly the same.

Thoughts? These are the only two options I really want to pursue (for anyone that might suggest aftermarket )

same boat....

I had the same prob, 04 SCrew, 18's and love the BF AT's, yes, i went with the 285's and love them.
My speed increased almost 2 mph at 60.
The size matches up well with the stock rims "not too much bulge" and another plus that size is "10 ply!"
They ride smoother than the OEM Goodyears and bite like no other! For daily driving im running 37psi in front and 35psi rear, thinking of going down a couple pounds though. You wont be disapointed with their looks.

I would nver run a load range E tire at less than half it's max pressure. Your rear axle is rated at about 4000lbs. At those pressures, you aren't even close to that number. Same with the front. They should be up closer to 50psi.

I just had this exact tire put on my '06 Screw last Wednesday... they look beautiful and seem to handle and perform well.

They seem a little rougher/noisier when it comes to ride compared to the Goodyear AT/S that came on the truck but nothing I can't live with (and is expected with more agressive tire).

I also had mine filled with Nitrogen which should help with tire life (yes I know, I know... there are mixed debates as to how well it works) ... but when I'm spending $1500 on a set of tires, the extra $20 for the nitro doesn't much matter in the event that it does save me something.

The only other option I was considering (for price reasons) was a Toyo Open Country A/T (the Goodyears were just way too expensive).

Awesome. This is exactly the info I was looking for. Gives me another option. You guys also answered my next question which was going to be about the different load range on the 285's. I was worried it might change the ride on the truck. Glad to hear that it's not a problem. Ever since I had my '01 S-Crew I've disliked the Wranglers. The ones on the '04 are better than the '01 but still not BFG's. I've got plenty of tread left on them and when it rains they're slicker than greased owl sh--. Considering the cost of the BFG's I'm still going to keep an eye out on Ebay for the near future for a set of 20" OEM take-offs. Maybe I can get off cheaper... but if I have to go with the 18's, the BFG's is the way I'll go.

Grazie gentlemen!

In my "daily driving" Im no where near "rated" capacity weight for front or rear axles. I dont want to ride like an empty straight truck. Now if Im pulling a trailer or actually using the bed for any type of weight I do pump them up.

And if you had a TPMS system, it would be going off with those pressures in an LT tire.

Are you sure? On my 05, the warning light only comes on if pressure drops too low. However, I know the system has been changed for 07.

It is still a warning light, depending upon the vehicle. Pretty sure the setting is 35 also. They have different settings for different vehicles and different tire types. If I remember correctly, when they were deciding on what pressures should set off the TPMS, LT tires were 35, whether a LR C, D, or E. I was that they allowed that low with a LR D or E.
Now I have the problem of finding a way to disable mine. I have 2 sets of tires/wheels, summer and winter. I am not about to pay $4-500 for a second set of sensors and $50 twice a year to have the sensors registered with the vehicle so it does not show the light. Only thing I can think of is to build some kind of container that will hold 50psi and the sensors, fill it with air, and stick it under the center section of the seat.

They may have changed the final rule back to different numbers. Here is part of the rule with the activation numbers. Scroll down to the table about a quarter of the way down. LR E tires is 46psi. I do think the numbers for the P series, extra load p series and LR C are too low, especially for a pick up. 20 psi for a p series on a PU is way to low to wait until then to give you a warning.
