Tall & Skinny 235 / 85/ 16?

I'm running a 2000 SuperCab 4x2 with auto tranny on the stock 235/75/16's (29" dia.). I'm wondering if going up to 235/85/16's (which have a 31" dia.) is going to throw my speedo, ABS and tranny out big time or is the difference too little to notice or care.

PS: I've got over 130,000 miles on it and the warranty long gone. just wanted something to handle the rural roads in my area.

Thanks,

Your speedometer will be off a little. I origninally went from a 30 inch tire to a 33 inch tire and my speedo was off 5 mph at 60mph to give you an idea.

Thanks Wandell,

I thought that might be the case but just wanted to hear other input.

I went from 235/65/16 to 31-12.50-16 and had a 5 mile diff at around 55. If you have a chip just make the tire changes in the program and it will do that for you or buy a truspeed speedo calibrator and it will fix all the problems that you talk about and it just wires in using (4) wires, for 186.90 free shiping

Why do you want to do this? Increased ride hight/clearance?

That's about a 32" tire, which is fine for stock 2wd trucks. i'd just go with 265/75R16 to increase both width and height. It will ride better/better control.

Sorry bud, but absolutely not. I put on 235/80/17's (same as 235/85/16) in place of my OEM's (265/70/17) And the difference in handling and ride quality is amazing. It tracks smoothly on any surface, no wandering; more responsive steering, and gives better fuel economy. They may look a little goofy, considering the trend in half tons to go wide, but I'll never go back to wide tires again.

I got 175/85/16.
I'm sittin' up high and it rides like a dream.

(I'm scared to death of storm drains though)

Akheloce, Maybe because you got an LT 1-play tire vs. a p-rated low pressure tire? Or, maybe you just got a better tire than you had before. I have no problems with any of those attributes (except ride) with my 285/70R17 (33") tires. plus, living in AK, you probably get more snow for which skinny tires are better, all else equal. I really have a hard time beliving the size (alone) has that much affect on how the truck feels.

Raoul, do you mean 275/85/16?
