'05 SCab 2x4 - 275/55/20 or 275/60/20?
I'm looking at upgrading the base wheels and tires currently on my 2WD '05 SCab XLT. I'm going to pick up some of the 20" wheels for the King Ranch, but I'm having trouble deciding which size tire to get. I'm after improved cosmetics, better grip, and maybe an extra 1" to 1.5" of ground clearance to help a little with the occasional trip over some washboard-like dirt roads.
Ford offers the 20" wheels with 275/55-20 tires. These are better than what I've got, but it seems like they still leave the wheel wells a bit empty. I'm also wondering what kind of ride you get with 55-series rubber on a truck.
I've considered going one size bigger, to 275/60-20. They'd be an inch taller--about 33 inches in diameter vs. 32. But are they likely to rub? Are there any other negative side effects I haven't thought of?
The 55-series tires would probably be Pirelli Scorpion ATRs, like the ones from the factory. The 60-series tires would probably be Bridgestone Dueler Alenzas.
Bear in mind that I don't have any intention of installing a lift kit or leveling kit.
Anybody got any thoughts?
